This is just stunning, I was feeling persephone so much right from the start and then she was revealed! I love that this poem has this very gorgeous, confident, wickedly feminine undercurrent ;) <3

Thank you so much Joscelyne! Receiving your beautiful comments on each of my pieces warms my heart. It makes a soft daydream feel more like a home, and anytime I feel nervous to publish a new poem, I know that I’ll have some beautiful friends like you come over for a cup of tea and a read. 💛

That’s really interesting because I’ve been contemplating recording my poetry and posting it as an audio along with the words for anyone who would prefer to listen. I didn’t know if anyone would want that though, so thank you for letting me know ☺️

Yes!! That song is so beautiful! I’ve loved it for many years and when I was making the playlist inspired by this poem I knew it had to be the opening track. 🌻🌻

Jennae, it was truly such a sublime emotional and sensory experience to be immersed in the world of sun dappled beauty that is your poem – I’m sitting here filled with the wonder of exploring new landscapes of wildflower meadow and grassy riverbanks, and then finding myself being guided by you, Jupiter-like, to a beautiful world somewhere between lavender and heaven (a little ode to my absolute favourite two tracks in your gorgeous dreamscape of a playlist, which I’m still listening to as I write this <3)

I felt like I was being taken on such an expansive journey of being inspired by nature’s breathtaking beauty, and also finding my roots being nourished by the strength, resilience and soft fierceness of nature, as a gentle and graceful warrior.

The painting from which you drew inspiration is also stunning, and it’s so beautiful to witness the conversation between you and the painter through viewing your poem and her art side by side. Also, your poem is my introduction to ekphrastic poetry, and I’m so intrigued and excited to explore this form of poetry too.

My favourite parts of the poem were v, xxxiv (which I just realized also refers to lavender and heaven), and lxxxix – as I’m writing this, I suddenly noticed the numbers are not chronological and after wondering about the meaning behind it, one pattern I found was that each number is the sum of the previous two numbers preceding it. And this made me think of bees collecting pollen at every flower they go to, and then becoming full of all the pollen they’ve collected from every flower, so that every flower a bee visits is connected to each other in that way :) :) It made me happy to think about this.

Thank you for infusing my day with this beautiful touch of Jupiter through your poem! <3 <3 <3

p.s. I would so love to have audio recordings of you reading to accompany the poetry too!

Suyin the way you reflect my poetry always makes my heart sing. Your words are so gorgeous and bring so much beauty to my work and my soul. I’m also so glad you’re enjoying the playlist! I was listening to it this morning as I had breakfast and drank green tea in my backyard. When ‘forest symphony’ played four birds flew into my garden and sat and listened, when it was over they flew away. It was so cute.

The reflection on finding natures beauty and also the soft fierceness as a gentle and graceful warrior is so touching. I’m so glad you could feel the blending of beauty and power in the words.

I’m so happy this poem introduced you to ekphrastic poetry. I have only learned of it recently too. It is such a beautiful method and I found it so lovely to explore my own inner world and uncover how the painting made me feel subconsciously. Reminding me that we don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are. I would love to read your poem if you decide to give this a try.

Yay! Yes! You noticed the numbers! It’s a bit of an easter egg. I was wondering if anyone would notice (and in my head I thought, if anyone will it will be Suyin). I love the meaning you found behind it about the bees collecting pollen, that is so adorable. I love it, you’re now a co-creator of this poem and that is one of the official meanings behind the numbers 😋

You absolutely identified the pattern correctly. It’s fibonacci’s sequence, which relates to the golden ratio and both can be found so much in nature. I first had the parts following chronological order and it felt so wrong deep down. I changed it to fibonacci numbers because that’s how nature spirals and grows. It felt only right that a poem inspired so deeply by nature would spiral and grow in the same way.

I might send you some articles about this principle in nature because it will explain it so much better than I ever could. One example is that you can see these numbers in how many petals most flowers have. This is because as a flower grows it follows this sequence to maximise the spread of petals so that it gets enough sunlight. There are so many other examples in nature from seashells to the way tree branches grow and divide. It’s so fascinating and while it’s mathematic, I find it so poetic.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and petal soft comment. I’ll always cherish it.

Jennae – wow! All that you’ve written in response took me on a whole new journey with the world of your poem – I love it so much! Thank you for letting me enjoy the magical scene of the four little birds visiting your garden concert hall to enjoy “Forest Symphony” with you – that is so precious, and now I’ll always listen to Forest Symphony thinking of this scene.

Yes I’m truly inspired by the concept of ekphrastic poetry, because I feel art always helps me connect to something so deep within me, and it inspires so much of my prose writing already – it feels so exciting to see where it can take me in poetry as a direct response too.

Ahhh I can’t tell you how much awe I felt to learn about how you wrote the fibonnacci sequence into your poem, and I agree how true it feels to the whole poem and the stories held within the poem – it’s so, so beautiful!! I had read before about the fibonacci sequence being interwoven across so much of nature, but I didn’t realize it was the pattern I saw (I look forward to diving into this more deeply with the articles you kindly shared with me – thank you). And what you’ve explained about how and why flowers grow their petals and how tree branches grow and divide in the way they do reminds me that nature is magic in action – and it’s as your poem conveyed – nature is fierce and will always find a way to be abundant, to thrive, to come alive again.

Anyway I’m overjoyed to have found the easter egg and super honoured to be the co-creator of your poem courtesy of the bees and the pollen they carry :’)
